Press Release

Published on June 12th, 2016 | by Melissa Terrell

Less than 24 hours ago, anger and hate tried to snatch Pride from our brothers and sisters in Orlando. The Pulse Club was born of a need to provide a safe gathering place for LGBTQ and Allied people. Over several hours that safe place was assaulted. Innocent people lost their lives, others had their lives changed forever. Our entire LGBA band family network sends its deepest sympathies to the victims and their loved ones. On the other side of the country, another gunman was captured by the police before he could inflict violence during the Los Angeles Pride Parade. The Lesbian and Gay Band Association stands with its LGBTQ & Allied family when it says “The Time is Now.”

The Time is Now to show your Strength in loving, compassionate, and even artistic ways in response to this event.

The Time is Now to show your Pride openly and without fear.

The Time is Now to Call upon your local, state, and national legislators to end gun violence towards all, especially the LGBTQ community.

The Time is Now to stand up for Love and end the bullying, hatemongering and fear in our society.

The Time is Now to embrace LGBA’s Mission – MUSIC, VISIBILITY and PRIDE.

If your local Pride event has not yet occurred, we encourage you to show up, speak up and participate. If your local Pride event has occurred, find another one to attend. Mourn our fallen family members and do not let their suffering be in vain. Pride is a STRONG emotion; Pride is what the bullies and hate speakers fear – For with Pride We Are Strong.
