Mile High Freedom Bands Announce New Assistant Director

Denver, Colorado — October 2nd, 2017 – The Mile High Freedom Bands is pleased to announce the addition of Hannah Ressler as Assistant Director and Freedom Swing Bandleader. Hannah will be joining Artistic Director Derek Hebert and Associate Director Donnie Lemley in leading the organization as it begins its 34th season.

Hannah joins the Mile High Freedom Bands at a pivotal time for the organization. Coming off of a record-setting season, the ensembles of the MHFB are poised to have one of their best seasons yet. Said Hebert, “Hannah brings an intense energy and passion to the lead of Freedom Swing. I’m looking forward to seeing her develop and push the ensemble to new heights.”

A graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Hannah spent her first two years of teaching as the Assistant Band Director at Lafayette High School. During her time at Lafayette High, her teaching responsibilities included conducting the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band, assisting with the Marching Band, and teaching Music Theory. In her first year as the director of the Symphonic Band, she conducted in the world-famous Carnegie Hall. Hannah is currently the Director of Bands at STEM Launch K-8 in Thornton, CO.

Hannah was a five-year member of the Skyliners Big Band in Lafayette, LA, and played in many ensembles during her undergraduate career including the UL Jazz Band and principal trombone for the UL Wind Ensemble. She was also selected to be a member of the school’s premier student quintet, the Echelon Brass Quintet. Her professional affiliations include the National Band Association and the National Association for Music Education.

As a recent transplant from Louisiana, Hannah traded her swamp boots for hiking boots and spends as much free time in the mountains with her Westie pup, Ollie.

Brandon A. Lujan, President of the Mile High Freedom Bands, added, “We are thrilled to have Hannah join our talented artistic team as the Assistant Director of the Mile High Freedom Bands. Hannah has been tasked with leading our ever growing Freedom Swing ensemble. With her unique southern charm she will help engage, excite, educate, and entertain everyone. Welcome Hannah!!”
