Runners Huff and Puff – but the Band Plays On
PHILADELPHIA, October 26 – At the upcoming Gore-Tex Philadelphia Marathon, the Philadelphia Freedom Band will line the course to inspire and entertain runners and fans alike. On Sunday, November 22, more than 30,000 race participants will weave through many of Philadelphia’s historic attractions, and vibrant neighborhoods.
“The runners are inspiring, and it’s thrilling to perform and provide motivation and good vibes along their way to the finish line,” said Philadelphia Freedom Band Drum Major and Band President, Patti Calandra. “The most exciting part is anticipating this wall of runners approaching,” said Greg Schwarz, Marching Band Coordinator. “They all start high-fiving. You can tell if it’s a song that is a favorite of theirs.”
The Philadelphia Freedom Band is planning a high-energy soundtrack of pep and marching songs, and will throw in some covers including songs from Adele, Fun, Madonna, Europe, and The Jackson 5. The Philadelphia community band has scheduled a busy race weekend, with a concert the prior evening. The band presents Folk Songs from Around the World, Saturday, November 21, at 7 PM at Arch Street United Methodist Church (corner of Broad & Arch Streets).
