Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band Releases Live Recording of Equality Concert

CHICAGO, Jan. 23, 2014 — Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles today announced its first digital album release: Stand Up! A Musical Celebration of Equality, featuring the Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band with conductors Kyle Rhoades and Jason Duran. This special commemorative download was recorded live during a one-night-only concert on Nov. 9, 2013 in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood following the news that Illinois would become the 15th state to grant same-sex couples the freedom to marry.

During this special performance, the Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band presented the Chicago premiere and second performance of “Colors: A Celebration” by Tim Jansa, a special commission by the Atlanta Freedom Bands for the 2013 Lesbian and Gay Band Association Conference. This piece stands as a musical interpretation of the Gay Rights Movement—from Stonewall to the present—and reflects the diversity, strength, and unbreakable spirit of the LGBT community.

This recording also includes “A Movement for Rosa,” a musical tribute to civil rights hero Rosa Parks by Chicago composer Mark Camphouse, “Candide Suite” and “Somewhere” (from West Side Story) by Leonard Bernstein, as well as “Wedding March” by Felix Mendelssohn. Additional masterworks inspire a sense of victory, transcendent peace, and hope for the future.

Available for digital download from iTunes, Amazon and other digital outlets starting today, this recording reflects the artistic identity of the ensemble’s programming and highlights its commitment to performing works by LGBT composers alongside masterworks from a variety of musical genres.

The Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band is part of Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles, a recognized 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. Inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2011, the Lakeside Pride Freedom Marching Band, Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band, and shhh…OUT! Lakeside Pride Jazz Ensemble together reach more than one million people annually.
