Oak Lawn Band announces AD
DALLAS — Timothy Norris is the newest Artistic Director of the Oak Lawn Band. He holds degrees in music education, composition, orchestral performance and instrumental conducting from Ohio University and Southern Methodist University.
Originally from the sharpest corner in the state of Ohio, Norris spent several years bolstering Ohio’s musical culture by serving in the community as assistant conductor to the Ohio University Symphony Orchestra, musical director of the Ohio Valley Summer Theater, student teacher and marching band assistant in the Athens City Schools, assistant musical director of the Ohio University Opera, and conductor of the Athens String Orchestra. He is passionately dedicated to bringing community together through making music. He plans to lead the Oak lawn band in more collaborative efforts that will strengthen the bonds of outreach and change throughout the DFW Metroplex and beyond.
The serach committe was made up of one board member and six band members that had very extensive music knowledge and years of making music. We received seven resumes and then interviewed all seven to narrow the field down to six. Each candidate performed a conducting audition with one prepared piece of there choosing and one piece chosen by the search committee, as a sight reading piece. After the last audtition the band voted and choose it’s new AD. This committee worked very hard thanks to all of them for their time.
“Thanks to Todd Woods our out going AD for his years of service to the Oak Lawn band,” said Jared Koller, band president. “His last year with us was a busy one since Dallas hosted the LGBA conference last year.”
